We are excited to participate in eBird’s 2nd Global Big Day! At Whitehawk, we always submit our lists from our tours and day trips to eBird. We believe this is a great way to contribute in bird research and conservation while we do our job, which is trying to provide people the most enjoyable and learning experience in the field.
Tomorrow – May 14, 2016 – is a special day: it is the second Global Big Day and we would like to encourage all birders to participate. This is a fun way to participate in the largest citizen science event in the world. The only thing you need to do is to open your account on eBird, go out birding and submit all your observations for the day.
eBird is an excellent way to keep track of our bird sightings, but it is so much more than that. It is an incredible global bird resource, developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. eBird a great place to find out more about bird species distribution and abundance. It is also a great place to research birding hotspots for a future birding tour. And most importantly, it is an invaluable tool for researchers, conservationists and organizations to watch trends. This way, we can identify where conservation efforts need to be directed. Our sightings in eBird contribute to all these benefits.
You can check out online results at the Global Big Day page. Watch the world tally their bird sightings and support bird conservation!
Happy ebirding!
